James Cave and his two colleagues, Chris Richards and Clinton Lionnet, have joined Cerno Capital, bringing with them existing client relationships totalling over £150mn.

James began his career at Lazards, where he spent 15 years before founding Thornhill Investment Management in 1984. He later established Salisbury Partners in 2007, a business he sold to LJ Athene, which subsequently became Alvarium. James joins us as a consequence of the merger of Alvarium into New York based investment house Tiedemann, creating AlTi. James’s extensive career working with private clients brings significant expertise, experience and contacts to the firm.

Chris has occupied several roles during his career. Working alongside James, he was previously a Partner of Alvarium Investment Managers (UK) LLP and a Director of the AlTi International Wealth Management business, as well as a Senior Private Banker in the London office of Kleinwort Hambros and a Private Banker in the High-Net-Worth team of Barclays Wealth and Investment Management. He holds the Investment Advice Diploma and is an Associate member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.

Clinton has been working with James for 16 years and has detailed knowledge of custody account operations and reporting.

The private client accounts in question are based around 40 family relationships, £30mn of which is held within a UK collective and the majority in individual custody accounts. James, Chris and Clinton have started work in our Sackville Street offices this month.

Since the foundation of Cerno Capital in 2007, the core offering of the firm has been to provide investment services to families, often across multiple generations. As such, these assets are aligned with this approach and we believe the combination will add value to the firm.
