Project Speedbird:
Cerno Capital sponsors Hannah White and her attempt to become the World’s Fastest Woman on Water over one nautical mile

Cerno Capital is excited to announce its sponsorship of sailor and adventurer Hannah White on her attempt to break the record for the fastest time to complete one nautical mile.

Project Speedbird is the name of White’s latest mission, an attempt to break the 40-knot speed barrier over both 500 metres and one nautical mile. Taking place in spring 2016 at Grafham Water Sailing Club in Cambridgeshire, Project Speedbird will be the pinnacle of her great year, having already broken the record for the Fastest Person to cross the English Channel in June 2015.

The boat itself has taken the project’s Technical Director, Dave Chisholm, over a year to design and build. Weighing just 38 kilograms, including the 8-kilogram hull, Speedbird is a testament to the engineers, designers and scientists involved in its production.

Over the years, White has competed in the esteemed Haute Route Cycle Race in the French Alps, sailed across the Atlantic Ocean by herself three times, and travelled across England in a kayak. Beginning the path to her sailing career at 15 years old, one of her most notable triumphs came in 2009 when she finished second in the prestigious solo trans-Atlantic race, the OSTAR.

Alongside her own ventures, the 32-year old is also well-known for presenting and commentating for Extreme Sailing Series, Countryfile and her own challenge show Go Hard Or Go Home. White is currently co-presenting BT Sport’s coverage of the 35th Americas Cup.

James Spence, Managing Partner at Cerno Capital, comments: “We are delighted that Cerno is supporting Hannah with her quest to push boundaries and break this record.

Hannah embodies a sense of adventure and determination that is inspirational to athletes and explorers alike. Project Speedbird will be an intense test of her skill, stamina and strength. We look forward to cheering Hannah on and wish her the best of luck.”
